Air Conditioning Service | Home Installations To Help Block Allergens

There is no doubt that indoor air quality (IAQ) is a sensitive matter when in comes to your home air conditioning service. The oxygen that we breathe in when inside our homes or offices must be free of contaminants and other forms of irritants to ensure that everybody’s health isn’t compromised. This is especially important to people with respiratory problems such as asthma.

Irritants when mixed with the indoor air, especially when circulated by your cooling system, can cause sneezing, coughing, eye and nose irritation, skin rash, or worse a more serious form of medical condition.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), pollutants like nitrous oxide and sulfur dioxide cause inflamed airways, eye irritation and damage to the respiratory tract. An irritated respiratory tract can induce coughing, mucus secretion, and long-term infections. It is particularly damaging to those with asthma or compromised immune systems. Over time, exposure to poor IAQ can lead to reduced lung function and breathing problems as well as lung cancer or cardiovascular disease,” as written by Emily Beach on her article about poor IAQ.

These Home Installations Can Help Minimize Allergen Contamination

If there is a suspicion of poor IAQ or the lack of it at some point, it’s still a cause for worry, especially when family members in the house or the employees in a business start getting sick. If there’s more than one showing the same signs and symptoms, then it’s mostly likely an IAQ issue. If this is the case, what can you do?

There are home installations that could help prevent contaminants from polluting the oxygen circling within your home. Learning about them can help you secure a cleaner, healthier air for your family.

Dehumidifier

air conditioning serviceA dehumidifier works a bit like a vacuum cleaner which sucks in air from the room at one end taking the moisture out of it, before blowing it back out into the room again. The moisture is collected into a tank which you will have empty from time to time. This process is similar to how your air conditioning service works.

There are two types of dehumidifier. One, it works as a refrigerator when it cools down air to remove moisture, a process almost identical to how home refrigerators work. And two, it absorbs (collected water droplets soaks into something) and adsorbs (where water is directly picked up from the surface and into a collection bin).

Ultraviolet Air Purifiers

Ultraviolet or UV Light Purifiers are the new form of technology invented to substantially reduce contaminants, allergens, and other microbial particles that may linger in the air we breathe. This device uses ultraviolet light to kill particles as they pass through it. This latest form of purifier is intended to help those with asthma, unhealthy lungs, or those suffering from other forms of allergies caused by airborne allergens. However, since it’s a fairly new technology, compared to conventional units, it’s a bit pricey.

Air Filter System

This filtration system works just like the filters in your AC, but it covers a wider floor space and blocks off much more airborne contaminants than regular filters. This filtration system comes in two types: the media filters which create a physical barrier to trap minute allergens, and the electronic filters which use a high voltage charge to capture pollutants. Most of the time, additional filtration measure is built into the heating and cooling system, but there are portable units with self-contained fans that can be placed in individual rooms.

If you have considered adding a filtration system in your existing cooling unit, Marthedal can give you professional advice on which type will work for your home or business. Or if you have an existing filtration unit that needs check up along with your home AC repair service, we can schedule a highly skilled and experienced technician to help you.
