Top Ways Your Air Conditioning Can Benefit From Annual Tune-Ups

Air Conditioning tune-up service is one of the maintenance component your home AC service needs to fully function and last longer as it continues to work on heating and cooling homes and business establishments.

While changing the filter is one of the simplest things you can do to keep your AC working, a regular maintenance checkup and tune up with an HVAC professional will keep your unit from malfunctioning during the hottest days of the summer. It needs to be tuned up once annually, every year. If the cooling capacity is not up to par and they are not getting air flow out or if the outdoor coils are dirty, most definitely these are signs that your unit needs to be tuned up.

What Are The Benefits Of Annual Tune-Ups?

Tune-ups help ensure that there aren’t any hidden problems in your home air conditioner service that could cause major issues later. There are 4 main parts of this maintenance routine that definitely prevent a costly breakdown. It determines if…

Your AC Has The Correct Refrigerant Charge

Refrigerant is the blood that flows within your cooling system. Its purpose is to absorb heat from your home and toss it outside. If the refrigerant charge is low, it won’t be able to absorb heat. Some of the problems it causes are:air conditioning

  • Warm air is being blown in.
  • Evaporator coil gets frozen.
  • The AC is not blowing enough air.
  • The AC runs non-stop.

A tune-up will show you if there is enough amount of this important liquid in your unit.

The Condensate Drain Isn’t Clogged

When the AC unit is turned on, it removes some humidity from your home’s air. The humidity is then drained as water through a pipe called the condensate drain line. If the condensate drain becomes clogged and isn’t fixed right away, the water may flood back into your home and cause some serious water damage. De-clogging the drain is a simple task for an expert technician.

The Electrical Connections Are Working

Every air conditioner has both internal and external electrical connections. Weather changes and humidity can cause wires to expand and contract, eventually loosening the electrical wiring. Loose wiring can cause:

  • Short circuits – a dangerous electrical condition that causes a trip in the breaker
  • Parts that malfunction – an issue like the fan not spinning may occur

During the tune-up, the technician will check that these connections are tight, and fix those that loosened up.

The Evaporator And Condenser Coils Are Clean

The evaporator coil is located inside the indoor unit which absorbs heat from inside the house. The heat is then transferred to the outside unit’s condenser coils and released outdoor. As the AC continues to cool the home, dirt from the air are collected inside the evaporator coils. The same situation can happen to the condenser coil, especially during monsoon season.

As dirt piles up, the evaporator coil can’t fully absorb heat while the condenser coil can’t completely release the collected heat. This could lead to a series of problems like:

  • An increase in energy usage.
  • Breaker constantly tripping.
  • Frozen coils.
  • The AC blows hot air.

All these components come together to evaluate the overall performance of your home cooling service, and underlying issues gets addressed accordingly to help you save on energy usage and ensure the efficiency of your equipment.
