Know the Key Parts of a Gas Furnace in Fresno

Know the Key Parts of a Gas Furnace in Fresno

A solid heating service in Fresno is a necessity in winter. In fact, it is both a comfort system that keeps the whole family safe, healthy, and comfy with the winter cold and an asset to your property when you have the best gas furnace installed.

During its years and years of service, you’ll have to encounter several issues with your system that may require service visit by a technician or can lead to expensive repair jobs. One of the best ways to help prevent costly repairs is to detect potential issues early on. How can this be done?

It’s easier (and less complicated) to be able to identify right away any issues with your furnace.

How Gas Furnace Parts Function and Work Together

home heating furnaceBy knowing the important parts of a furnace, you can easily detect the cause of a malfunction of breakdown. This knowledge can even help you figure out what needs to be done to get your unit up and running again. Let’s take a look at these key components.

Heat Exchanger – It is the core of any gas furnace. The heat exchanger is made up of long S-shaped metal tubes that burn gas to heat the air. The blower motor blows the heated air into the ducting lines. A cracked or damaged exchanger affects the heating ability of your furnace and can possibly release carbon monoxide into the heated air.

Gas Burner – The gas burner is responsible for heating up the air in the exchanger. The pilot flame burns at low temperature when the furnace is turned on, which then heats up the air inside the exchanger.

Gas Manifold – The gas manifolds connect the main burners with the gas valves. Spuds or brass fittings connect the burners to the manifold. The amount of gas delivered to the burners depends on the size of the drilled hole in the manifold.

Thermostat – While the heat exchanger controls the heat being released in the ducts and into the vents, the thermostat controls the temperature. This device dictates what desired temperature to maintain and how often does the unit need to restart. To effectively use the thermostat, place it somewhere in the middle of the room and away from windows and doors.

Safety Controls – In case of sudden malfunction such as the pilot light going out or an ignition failure, a safety control device called the thermocouple sends a signal to shut off the gas.

Flue Pipes – A flue pipe is a large metal tube that attached to the furnace that leads to a vent outside of the house or building. Its main job is to release hazardous byproducts of burned gas outside and away from the circulation vents. If uninstalled incorrectly, poisonous gas will escape and cause health issues to everyone in the home.
